CGTMSE-backed Loans: What MSMEs Should Understand
The Credit Guarantee Fund Trust for Micro and Small Enterprises (CGTMSE) enables eligible MSE units to access institutional credit from Member Lending Institutions (MLIs) without third-party collateral or property mortgage.
Key Scheme Framework & Guarantee Coverage
- Guarantee Coverage Ceiling: Effective 01-Apr-2025 under updated CGS-I scheme guidelines, CGTMSE offers credit guarantee coverage up to ₹10 Crore per eligible MSE borrower, subject to MLI underwriting and scheme eligibility.
- Guarantee Cover vs Loan Sanction: CGTMSE provides a credit guarantee to member banks/NBFCs to mitigate credit risk. CGTMSE itself does not grant loan approvals or disburse funds directly; all credit decisions remain with the lending institution.
- Coverage Scope: Extends to both greenfield enterprise setups and operational business expansion across manufacturing and service sectors.
Underwriting & Appraisal Prerequisites
- Valid Udyam Registration as a Micro or Small Enterprise.
- Technically and economically viable business proposal demonstrating cash flow debt-servicing capacity.
- Compliance with Member Lending Institution (MLI) credit policy and annual CGTMSE guarantee fee structures.
